Furball's Summary of Art 2013

Description

So I think this year was pretty productive. I went through a few rough patches in the middle, mostly due to emotional stress, home issues, and trying to bite off more than I could chew, but it turned around for me near the start of fall. I really learned quite a lot.

I experimented a lot, which was both informational and fun, and I should do it more often. I also learned to draw feathered wings without them looking bizzare, and sorta-kinda figured out how I like to shade things. I also like to think that I got better at emotions and poses, but that's debatable.

LINKS TO THE ART, AS WELL AS RAMBLINGS ABOUT SAID ART:
JANUARY - First Dragon of the Year Like it says, first thing I drew this year. Experimenting with various dragon bits, trying to pin down a design for this guy.
FEBRUARY - Seadragon Playing with lighting. Drawn while I had the head cold from the underworld, and strangely enough, inspired by a humidifier. It's a long story.
MARCH - Dust Motes More playing with lighting and also feathers. Starting to look into the idea of coloring the outlines...
APRIL - Don't Try to Sneak Up Behind Me (HA! I fixed the link! I can HTML gud.) My first attempt to draw something epic. Did not come out as epic as I had hoped, due to the lack of epic battle poses. This was when I started to make a real effort to improve my posing.
MAY - Pyra Yet more playing with lights and shading. Figured out how to make something look like it's red-hot. Although I still can't draw armor very well...
JUNE - Found a Poppy! I found a big orange poppy growing in my garden in a really weird place, not to mention we didn't plant poppies, the weirdness of which inspired a spontaneous drawing of Whimsey! This is also around the time when I decided that I like colored outlines.
JULY - Skylaran Heir Prologue First part in an ongoing story. July didn't have much for it; lots of stressful things were happening at home, which had a negative impact on my art. I didn't draw as much or as well that month.
AUGUST - Push Your Limits a.k.a. THE MEGA DRAW. My second attempt to draw an epic picture of Lunari, and this time, I think I nailed it. It took me five days and I'm incredibly proud of it. I still think it's the best thing I've drawn to date; gonna be a while before I can push myself even farther, methinks. Also, I finally figured out the final design for both Lunari's armor and the dragon from back in January (although this picture doesn't show it well, ha).
SEPTEMBER - Black Socks A picture I drew to make myself feel happy. And strangely enough, it worked. Whimsey's design changed a bit since June; she got a little shorter and chubbier, and her eyes got a bit rounder, which more accurately depicts how I see her in my head. I don't think it affected her overall cuteness any. (Confession: This was actually drawn October first, but I didn't do much in September and it's only oine day, so shhhhhh.)
OCTOBER - Heart of the Storm LIGHTNING! And also still trying to draw armor. And swords. The significance of this picture has not yet been revealed, ooh~ *forshadowing*
NOVEMBER - Of the Sky Looking at other ways to draw wings, as well as more playing with lighting. My twelve-year-old brother says this dragon is anatomically impossible, but I say it's a nonexistant, mythical dragon, so he can shove it.
DECEMBER - How deep does it go? My little genetic experiment gone wrong, Biohazard. This was some expirement-y vent art to try to illustrate how alien the Biohazard is. I was pleasantly surprised with how well it turned out, although I need to learn more about mammal anatomy.
